Here in Vermont, it is back to school week. Summer vacation is over and children and teenagers all across the state will be packing up their backpacks, meeting their new teachers, and getting back to their studies.
Lund’s education programs don’t have a long summer break. New Horizons Education Program operates year round in order to keep moms engaged in education and making efficient progress towards their goals. The curriculum looks slightly different during the summer with students participating in work experience at Lund or at other organizations or businesses in Burlington. The students also tend the gardens that they planted in the spring with the preschoolers and use the produce they harvest in a cooking class. The summer culminates at NHEP with the Honoring Ceremony.
Lund’s Early Childhood Education Program also operates year round and the summer is the perfect time for playing outside, walks to the park, art en plein air and water play. The preschool classrooms pursue a “camp” schedule with themed units of learning and adventurous fun. The program closes at the end of the summer for a few days of planning, training and preparing the classrooms for new students joining the program or moving up into different classrooms.
And of course many children engaged in Lund’s community programs – post adoption support, in home family education, Project Family, community family engagement, transitional housing – are heading back to school across the state.
We wish everyone good luck for the first week of school and stay tuned for updates from our classrooms here at Lund as we carry on the amazing work of learning, growing and reaching educational goals.
