“Lund has been an asset to our family. Not just focused on the kids, but on everyone involved. They are incredibly understanding of our busy lives and at times lack of organization. Our daughter is going to kindergarten in the fall and we don’t know what we will do without Lund!”
Thanks to the support of our generous donors, hardworking volunteers, and committed partners and collaborating agencies we are able to present the following outcomes and data points for our most recent year (July 1, 2018 – June 3o, 2019).
Adoption
- 274 adoptions were finalized through Lund.
- 10 of these were infants through the private adoption program.
- Project Family, Lund’s collaboration with the Department for Children and Families, finalized the adoptions of 254 children and young people who had previously been in state’s custody.
- 83% of children found permanence through adoption or guardianship within 6 months of termination of parental rights.
- 10 adoptions were finalized through the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program.
- Lund adoption workers worked with 137 children and youth in state’s custody to find them forever families and permanent homes.
- 134 families formed through adoption or guardianship accessed post permanence support services.
- 98% of families accessing post permanence services reported that the program helped them to feel more confident as a parent.
- 98% of families accusing post permanence services were satisfied with the program.
- 1410 individuals accessed search and reunion services.
- 52 individuals engaged in options counseling.
- 20 homestudies were carried out.
- 100% of families felt supported as they waited for a child.
Child and Family Programs
Independence Place
- 8 women and 9 children lived at Independence Place, Lund’s transitional housing program.
- 100% of Independence Place tenants reported increased social connectedness upon leaving the program.
- 100% of Independence Place tenants reported increased parenting skills upon leaving the program
- 100% of tenants who successfully completed the program received a section 8 voucher from Burlington Housing Authority, allowing them to secure safe, affordable, permanent housing in their community of choice.
Kids-A-Part
- The Kids-A-Part (KAP) program served 184 mothers and 355 children
- 89% of women reported that working with KAP made them more likely to talk to their kids about incarceration in an age appropriate way. We know that this helps lessen the trauma to children of their mother’s incarceration.
- 92% of women reported that working with KAP made them more likely to discuss the impact of their incarceration on their children and their child’s caregivers. Again we know that this helps to lessen the traumatic impact on children.
- 86% of moms attending parenting groups inside the correctional facility felt that what they learned was useful and directly applicable to their situation.
Early Childhood Education Program
- 72 children attended Lund’s 5 STAR Early Childhood Education Program.
- 83% of children who transitioned to Kindergarten were considered “kindergarten ready”. Those who were not had supportive plans in place with their school so that everybody was ready for as smooth a transition as possible.
- 99% of children attending LECP made progress towards social/emotional developmental goals
- 93% of LECP families identified as having barriers to meeting their basic needs were connected to resources to help them remove those barriers.
Family Education
- 84 moms and children participated in family education at Lund’s residential program
- 112 moms and children participated in family education in the community.
- 95% of parents participating in family education made progress towards self-identified goals including sleep, nutrition, access to quality childcare, attachment, co-parenting, challenging behaviors, child safety, employment, housing, and medical and dental needs.
New Horizons Education Program
- 20 students attended New Horizons Educational Program – Lund’s high school completion program for pregnant or parenting students. 8 students came from the community and 12 attended while living at Lund’s residential program.
- 94% of students demonstrated academic process
- 88% of students reported increased self sufficiency through attending NHEP
Parent Child Center Services
Lund is one of three Parent Child Centers for Chittenden County offering essential family support services.
Participants in PCC services complete a biannual Participant Satisfaction and Family Impact Survey. The latest results are shown below:
- 91% of participants say that the services and supports improved their quality of life.
- 91.4% of participants say they received the help that was right for them.
- 94.2% of participants say that they would recommend the services/supports to a family or friend.
Clinical Treatment
Residential Program
- 62 moms and 67 children lived at Lund’s residential program. Moms engaged in treatment for substance use and/or mental health conditions, family education and life skills education while children received developmental services.
- 83% of mothers reported that Lund helped them to become a better parent.
- 93% of mothers reported increased social connectedness at 2 months post discharge from Lund’s residential program.
- 92% of mothers reported increased social connectedness at 4 months post discharge from Lund’s residential program.
Outpatient Treatment
- 228 parents engaged in outpatient substance use disorder treatment or assessment services during the year.
- 7 parents engaged in outpatient treatment for mental health conditions. Lund introduced mental health counseling (for parents who do not have a co-occurring substance use disorder diagnosis) this year in order to meet community need.
Regional Partnership Program
- 1056 parents were referred to the statewide Regional Partnership Program, 971 of them worked with a case manager to receive a substance use disorder screening. 85 declined participation in the program.
- 77% of the parents who were determined to suffering from a substance use disorder or being at risk of substance use disorder engaged in the recommended treatment.
