One of the benefits of working at the Hoehl Family Building is interacting with the children at Lund’s Early Childhood Education Program (LECP). And it doesn’t get much better than when the preschoolers drop off a personalized invitation to a Pesto Pizza Party. Made with ingredients from their garden, this is just one example of how Lund is integrating nutrition education into our programs.
Nutrition education is also a focus at Lund’s Residential Treatment Program. The food services staff, in partnership with the nursing staff, have begun a new class with parents in the program, helping them to learn about healthy nutrition, meal planning, purchasing food on a budget, and preparing age-appropriate healthy meals for their family.
Why a focus on food and nutrition? According to Feeding America, 1 in 8 children face hunger here in Vermont. Access to healthy food is crucial for children’s growth and wellbeing, and providing families with the skills and resources to live healthy and independent lives is one way that Lund helps strengthen families and help children thrive.
