On an average day in Vermont, there are 100 older children living in foster care, waiting for their forever families and permanent homes.
At Lund, we are committed to finding adoptive families for these children through our partnership with the Vermont Department for Children and Families (DCF), called Project Family.
At Project Family, we dream of a society where all children feel safe, loved, cared for, and understood. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for every child in Vermont. There continue to be children who are neglected, abused, or living in unsafe homes. When these children are identified, their custody is transferred to the Vermont Department for Children and Families.
These children need safe, nurturing places to live while they can’t be at home, so it is up to the State to find foster care for these children. In some cases, the children are unable to return to their parents and become legally freed for adoption. It is then the job of Project Family to find homes for these children — because every child deserves a family no matter how old they are.
Becoming the family of a child in foster care is an incredibly rewarding and challenging endeavor. With preparation, counseling, and support from Project Family, it can be a deeply rewarding way to grow your family.
