On November 14th families, adoption staff, and volunteers filled the downstairs of the Hoehl family building celebrating families formed through adoption in honor of National Adoption Month. There was a pizza dinner and lots of different activities for kids to try out. This year the activities focused on the importance of play and fun. Meaningful play is essential in forming connections between parents and children and providing context for a child’s learning. Children and families enjoyed making slime, creating kaleidoscopes, playing charades, dancing, drumming, constructing sand boxes, face paint, and finding the I-spy clues.
DCF Commissioner Ken Schatz read a proclamation signed by Governor Phil Scott declaring November as National Adoption Month in Vermont and celebrating the important role that adoptive families play in the health of the state.
More than 80 people attended this event and it was a joyful, busy, slime filled evening celebrating all the different ways that families come together.
Happy National Adoption Month to all and thank you to our wonderful families who came to celebrate with us.
