Ashley Sherry, Lead Teacher at Lund’s Early Childhood Education Program is one of the winners of the most recent Employee of the Quarter. The other winner is Renata Prim, Residential Program Management Assistant and we’ll meet her in another article.
Ashley divides her time between the Older Infant and Young Toddler classrooms, supporting them through their daily routine. She also assists Judy, the Childcare Coordinator, with scheduling, office tasks, and ensuring teachers and children are receiving needed supports. She has a BS in Elementary Education and Communication from Keene State College and worked in the early childhood field during her time at college.
She says that her favorite part of the her job is forming relationships with the children, “I have known many of these children since infancy, and I feel so honored to continue to be a part of their lives, watching them grow and celebrating their big moments. I love the freedom and imagination you get to have while developing curriculum for young children. They bring so much joy to the world, and I’m happy I get to surround myself with that.”
Ashley was nominated by her colleagues and commended for her teamwork, flexibility and concern for others. During the last three months she took on a leadership role at the program while the Childcare Coordinator was out on medical leave. Ashley was able to be successful at her usual job responsibilities and take on everything else that was needed to keep the program running smoothly keeping consistency for the children. Here are some excerpts from her nomination:
“Ashley is a true team player and strives to make sure that, to the best of her ability, each staff member at Lund has their needs met, be it in the classroom or emotional.”
“Ashley led staff meetings, provided support for individual teachers in times of classroom crisis, supported parents through good and tough days and above all, listened to everything that each of us had to say with care and support. Ashley not only listened to our needs and concerns, but she heard them and immediately jumped into action. Knowing that Ashley was running childcare in Judy’s absence was incredibly comforting! Ashley is such a kind and caring person and I am so happy to have the privilege of working with her every day.”
“She has handled all of the office duties that she was capable of taking on, she listened and supported all of the teachers beyond our expectations. She supports our classrooms above and beyond. She always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude.”
Thank you very much, Ashley, for your hard work and commitment to our families at Lund.
