November marks the start of the holiday season, but it’s important to remember that November is also National Adoption Month! National Adoption Month is chance to show extra initiative in educating communities through programs and activities to help spread awareness about the 123,000 children and youth nationwide waiting to join their forever families.
For this year’s National Adoption Month, the Children’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Health is focused on sharing the resources necessary to encourage older youth to connect with their permanent homes. It happens too often that only one path is seen for older youth, a path that doesn’t include finding and fostering a connection with an adoptive family or guardian. The goal during this National Adoption Month is to empower communities to help teenagers plan for their futures and explore all their options.
Lund is Vermont’s oldest and largest nonprofit adoption agency. Lund has been collaborating with the Department for Children and Families to find forever families for children in state custody through ‘Project Family’ for over 19 years.
This past year…
- 274 adoptions were finalized through Lund – 254 of these were through Project Family.
- 134 families formed through adoption or guardianship accessed post permanence support services to get the help they needed to be healthy. Post Permanence equips parents with the tools they need to care for children and young people who have experienced early trauma.
- 1410 individuals accessed search and reunion services to find information, context and connections.
Lund’s adoption team works every day to ensure that every child grows up in a connected, healthy, and loving forever family. Happy National Adoption Month!
