The dream of living independently can often feel out of reach for struggling young moms.
Lund’s Independence Place transitional housing program helps this dream of living independently with their children come true.
Independence Place provides seven studio apartments for young women who are pregnant or parenting one or two children. The building is located at McAuley Square on Mansfield Avenue in Burlington, Vermont.
To live at Independence Place, young women must:
- Be enrolled in education or job training programs
- Commit to a one year lease
- Participate in weekly community meetings
- Be good tenants and pass weekly housing inspections
Residents at Independence Place benefit from round-the-clock support staff, as well as access to other Lund programs and services. Young mothers form a supportive community and gain independent living and parenting skills.
In addition to their own small apartments, residents share a communal living space, kitchen, and playroom. There participate in community dinners and events to celebrate special occasions.
