What is your favorite memory from your first formal dance?
In 2016, several Lund clients from our residential, NHEP, and community programs approached our staff with an idea for hosting a formal dance. In their words, “Prom and formal dances are a normal experience for most young adults. We would like to have the opportunity to participate in this experience. It would be a chance for us to interact socially as young adults instead of mothers and clients for one night.”
Our clients created a fabulous proposal that included all the details and planning it would take to make this night magical. With so much thought and passion behind this proposal, Lund staff knew this was an event that needed to be realized.
Through a partnership of staff and clients, as well as immense support from our community, the 2016 Lund Prom was celebrated in November 2016. The theme of the dance was Old Hollywood, and our clients enjoyed a red carpet Walk of Fame, selfie photobooth, delicious treats, and an evening full of great music and dancing.
Reactions from the night were overwhelmingly positive:
“Tonight was so fun and freeing.”
“This was my first prom ever. It was so special and fun to have this time with just me and my friends.”
“I don’t remember the last time I had this much fun while sober.”
This experience was incredibly meaningful and important to our clients. The event provided an opportunity for moms in Lund programs to have a fun night out—spending time with their friends, dancing, and enjoying freedom from their responsibilities for a little while in order to just have a good time.
With such a successful and significant event in the books, Lund staff knew the important of making another formal dance a reality in 2017. And we need your help.
