South Burlington – Lund recently welcomed three new members to its Board of Trustees. They are Laura Taylor of Burlington, Julio Thompson of East Montpelier, and Dr. Tara Affolter of Middlebury. The agency, which provides adoption, treatment, and support services to families across the state, is critical to Vermont’s system of prevention for families.
President and CEO Tricia Coates said, “Our board members offer time, talent, and encouragement that have been so meaningful to us during this challenging time. We welcome Tara, Julio, and Laura to the Lund family and look forward to their participation in our important mission and work.”
Dr. Tara Affolter
Dr. Affolter is an Associate Professor of Education Studies at Middlebury College and has over 15 years of experience teaching high school English and theatre while working for racial and social justice within public schools. Dr. Affolter volunteers at the Addison Country Parent-Child Center. Dr. Affolter has research and teaching experience in antiracist teaching, social justice education, culturally relevant pedagogy, disability studies, and Critical Race Theory. Laura Taylor
Laura is the advisor to Private Health Management and has significant executive experience in change management, risk analysis, and strategic planning. Previously, Laura was Global Head of Client Delivery and Managing Director of Aon Inpoint. Laura was involved in Aon’s fundraising events supporting New Orleans post Katrina and NYC post 9/11. Laura is looking to give to the Vermont community by supporting the Lund board.
Julio Thompson
Julio is an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Vermont and Director of the Attorney General’s Civil Rights Unit, which enforces Vermont’s laws regarding employment discrimination, fair employment practices, and hate crimes. Julio has also worked on police reform and is an expert for the U.S. Department of Justice on suicide. He teaches about hate crimes at the Vermont Police Academy.
Board Chair Christine Oliver stated, “We welcome these three talented professionals to Lund’s Board. Their deep experience in business, government, academia, and community service will broaden our perspectives and support our critical work on behalf of Vermont families.”
