Great question! We’re glad you asked. There isn’t much question about what Thanksgiving is although there is still some mystery about whether turkeys can fly and who was the first president to declare a day of thanksgiving but we know for sure that it is a day for family and for being grateful for the good in our lives. Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday are now well established too. So that brings up right up to Giving Tuesday…here’s the skinny:
- Giving Tuesday this year falls on November 27th
- GivingTuesday started in 2012 as day to celebrate and support giving and philanthropy and is now recognized and hosted everywhere around the world
- Last year Giving Tuesday generated gifts totaling $274 million!
- Social media mentions using #givingtuesday exceeded 1 million last year
- Giving Tuesday is not just about financial donations, it is about volunteering, advocating and championing the importance of charitable causes and the work of nonprofits that are close to your heart
- Everyone has something to give. You can give time or expertise, monetary donations large or small, simple acts of kindness, food or clothing.
What does this mean for Lund?
Another great question! We would love to raise as much money as possible on Giving Tuesday. All donations will go to support our programs that help families on their journey to brighter and healthier futures. Our generous donors and community supporters will help us raise over $1.3 million this year. Giving Tuesday is a great mid point to our end of year giving.
What can I do to help?
Oh there’s the kicker! Thanks for asking that one. Here is how you can get involved on Giving Tuesday:
- Make a financial donation here
- Share your donation on social media and ask others to do the same
- Share Lund’s Giving Tuesday content on the day itself and in the weeks leading up to 11/27
- Use #givingtuesday to connect with the global movement
Here’s how your donation will make a difference:
$10 buys two packets of diapers for an infant at our residential program
$50 pays for home cooked locally focused lunch for children at our 5 STAR early childhood education program
$100 pays for a parenting education group for moms and dads in the community
$500 pays for a 10 week support group for adoptive parents
$1000 can change a life by helping parents to overcome addiction, by ensuring children are safe and well looked after, or by finding a forever family for a child in foster care.
Thank you for supporting Lund in all the ways you do on Giving Tuesday, and every other day.
